Conway, SC — Bethlehem Baptist Church of Conway, SC is a small country church with an average of 145 in Sunday school. Pastor Mike Kinlaw saw a church on TV doing the Love God Love All™ campaign and then went to www.lovegodloveall.com to find out more. He ordered the Love God Love All™ Sermon Series resource kit and as they say, the rest is history.
“The sermon series was absolutely awesome and the creative worship ideas kept people wondering what I was going to use next. It caused a great excitement in the church as young, old, and in between jumped into this ministry. On the first Sunday, we ordered 500 bands and thought they would last us a couple of weeks, but they were gone the first Sunday. God blew us away with what he did through this,” exclaimed Pastor Kinlaw. “When we finished the series, we had handed out 4,100 bracelets in our community!”
Adults couldn't keep their wristbands with them because they would get one for themselves and give it away the next day. The children in the church set a goal to have everyone in their middle school wearing one of the wristbands and while they were witnessing to their fellow classmates and teachers--they met their goal! A mother with a six-year old son went to the mall and was walking around handing out the wristbands telling people what they meant while she was shopping. Rev. Kinlaw gave a personal example, “I can remember visiting a family in the hospital where the husband had a motorcycle accident and he was in a coma. I gave his wife and his mother a bracelet and told them to remember that God loves them and they should continue to love him and keep the faith. It encouraged their spirits and lifted them up as they later saw him awake.”
Each week of the series one of the Ten Commandments is expounded on in a creative and practical way really piercing into hearts and minds their importance for everyday life. “A young lady told me that the message on the fifth commandment of honoring your father and mother made her realize she had to teach her children to honor her and her husband and to honor God. And, the message on not bearing false witness touched many lives.” The pastor went on to say, “We came to understand that “Love God Love All" is not just a ministry, but is to be a way of life. I would highly recommend this ministry to everyone. If you approach it as a ministry and not a program, I promise God will bless.”
Perhaps the greatest benefit to this whole campaign is summed up in a single sentence by Rev. Kinlaw, “We had adults who would never share their faith telling me how they got to share their testimonies by giving away a wristband! This is the power of this simple tool to evangelize our community one person to another!”
